AUGUST NON-CREDIT COURSES AND PROGRAMS OFFERED

(Columbia, TN --- July 27, 2011) - - - Columbia State Community College's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit courses during the month of August covering a variety of topics.

Introduction to Word 2010 is a hands-on class where the student will learn how to add, move through and edit text, move words from one part of your document to another, work on two or more documents simultaneously, change the size or appearance of text, change margins and tab settings, run grammar and spelling checker, use the thesaurus and save and retrieve, copy, organize and print documents. The class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, August 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes text.

Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, and protecting and backing up data. The class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, August 12 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes text.

Introduction to Excel 2010 teaches the student to sort and analyze data, design custom charts and graphs, format worksheets using mathematical formulas. Get started with Excel 2010 by attending this class. The course will be held on Friday, August 26 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Fee: $129 includes text.

EMT Refresher (participants must register by July 31, 2011) The 24 hour refresher course provides participants with a review and update on the care and treatment of medical trauma emergencies. Participants completing this course will meet the refresher requirements for re-certification with the National Registry. Completion also provides EMTs who are not currently National Registered with the opportunity to meet the requirements to take the EMT National Registry written and practical examinations. Participants completing the course will receive 2.4 continuing education units. The class will be offered beginning Monday, August 15 and will extend through Wednesday, August 17 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Students need to bring their EMT manuals to class. The fee is $120.

Online Paralegal Career Advancement Certificate trains the students to interview witnesses, investigate complex fact patterns, research the law, prepare legal documents, and assist in preparing cases for courtroom litigation. Topics include legal terminology, introduction to the evidentiary predicate, identifying relevant authority, legal research, and legal writing and appellate procedure. This class is scheduled to begin on August 22 through December 2, 2011. The fee of $1189 does not include text. (Students are also required to purchase texts, approximately $340).

Other Online Legal courses of study offered are: Legal Nurse Consultant and Legal Secretary. Topics offered in the Paralegal field are: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Advanced Legal Research and Writing Course, Intellectual Property Law, Victim Advocacy and Bankruptcy Law.
