JUNE NON-CREDIT COURSES AND PROGRAMS OFFERED AT C-STATE

(Columbia, TN - May 12, 2011) - - - Columbia State's Center for Economic and Workforce Development is offering several non-credit courses during the month of June covering a variety of topics.

Introduction to Excel 2007 teaches the student how to get started with Excel 2007 and work with formulas and functions. The class will be held on the Columbia campus on Friday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee of $129 includes text.

The Introduction to QuickBooks 2010 course covers banking and billing activities, working with reports and budgets, protecting and backing up data, etc. The fee of $129 includes the textbook. The class will be held on the Columbia State Williamson County campus Saturday, June 4 from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm. The fee of $129 includes the textbook.

The Word 2007 for Seniors course topics include developing and editing documents, formatting text and paragraphs, formatting documents, and creating and formatting tables. This class will be held at the Columbia campus on Friday, June 10 from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm. The fee of $84 includes the textbook.

Delegating for Results is offered in conjunction with the Leadership series. The course helps students identify tasks and responsibilities that can be delegated and determine the most effective method of allocation; and to assess the scope of delegated tasks and identify the appropriate level of authority and support to give the people doing the work. It also uses a set of criteria to select the best people for tasks and responsibilities. Students will learn how to use the Interaction Process to conduct delegation discussions that meet personal and practical needs. This class will be held on Columbia campus Friday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m. until noon. The fee of $149 includes text.

Pharmacy Technician is a popular medical certificate program being offered this summer. Students can earn a Pharmacy Technician certification in 13 weeks and qualify for immediate employment in Tennessee's growing healthcare industry. Registration for this program is available immediately at the Columbia State's campus, located at 1665 Hampshire Pike. Registration runs until classes are filled. The course prepares students to take national board exams and apply for entry-level positions. The course fee of $999 includes 50 hours of instruction, books and all supplies. The class will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 28 through Augusts 16 from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m.

The Biofuel Production Operations online training program will give students the education they need to begin an exciting career in biofuel production. As a biofuel production operator, your job will be to ensure the quality and purity of the biofuel your plant produces. This involves inspecting and repairing equipment, operating computer systems, and handling lab equipment. The online program will ensure you have the skills you need to handle these tasks.
The Principles of Green Buildings online training program is designed to teach you the principles you must know in order to make buildings perform more efficiently. The program was developed and written in partnership with nationally recognized building science experts from Advanced Energy of North Carolina. The Principles of Green Buildings online training program will also help prepare students for industry credentials for green building.

Wind energy companies are growing exponentially to meet America's demand for clean, renewable, domestic energy. The entry-level Wind Energy Professional online training program prepares you for a career in the wind energy industry. The online certificate program is offered in partnership with major colleges, universities, and other accredited education providers.

The Solar Power Professional course will teach students the basics of solar systems, their benefits, and their many applications. Examine the history of photovoltaic solar power, and gain a sense for where the PV industry is headed. The course will start with basic safety, including how to avoid potential accidents and how to create a safe work environment as well as the use of protective equipment. The student will master the fundamentals of electricity and solar energy, including how to calculate simple circuit values and predict solar position using solar path diagrams. Upon completion of the program, students will have a thorough understanding of PV applications, working safety as it pertains to this field, basic electricity, and PV module fundamentals.
