NEWLY REDESIGNED COLUMBIA STATE WEBSITE RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Smashing Magazine Showcases ColumbiaState.edu

On March 19, 2010, Columbia State Community College's website - ColumbiaState.edu - was recognized in a SmashingMagazine.com article titled "Showcase of Academic and Higher Education Websites." The article mentions the fact that "College and University websites have a lot of roles to fill, including providing information for prospective students (both new and transfer), parents, current students and alumni and community supporters." The purpose of the article was to showcase excellent college or university websites that include "reams of information in a way that makes everything easy to find."

The article reads - "Columbia State Community College has a simple layout and color scheme with clean typography."

ColumbiaState.edu was redesigned during the 2008-09 academic year, and the new site was re-launched on June 29, 2009. The enormous task was supported by many areas of the college, via a Website Redesign Committee - including representatives from the following areas - the office of the president, academic divisions, academic support services, faculty senate, advising, tutoring, human resources, student services, admissions, financial aid, extended services, economic and workforce development, business services, evening and community services, access and diversity, university center, student government association, phi theta kappa, support staff organization, information technology, faculty instructional technology and marketing and public relations - who is responsible for the content and delivery on ColumbiaState.edu.

"Columbia State is honored to have our hard work recognized by Smashing Magazine," said Paul Hickey, Director of Marketing and Public Relations. "Special thanks to our entire Website Redesign Committee, especially the Information Technology department and Academic Support Services/Instructional Technology area. The goal for our website is to provide a vehicle to highlight our wonderful students, programs, faculty and services, while helping our audiences efficiently find key information, and improving the College's overall image."

The site design and custom content management system was created by Proud Lion, LLC, a Franklin, Tennessee based company who won a bid process to take on the job in March, 2009.
