Columbia State Business Students Have Opportunity For Seamless Transfer to Athens State

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - April 7, 2015) - - - Thursday, April 2, Columbia State Community College and Athens State University came together for the presidential signing of an articulation agreement that will allow Columbia State business students to seamlessly transfer to Athens State.
"This we hope will be the first of many steps we'll take together," said Dr. Robert Glenn, Athens State president. "We appreciate this opportunity and we thank President Smith for allowing us to come and build relationships."
Dr. Janet F. Smith, Columbia State president, noted that partnerships are an important part of education.
"This is a partnership that provides additional opportunities for students of Columbia State and citizens of this area to continue their studies after completing the associate degree," Smith said. "It provides opportunity to acquire a bachelor's degree that is in line with the student's goals"
The agreement will allow Columbia State students to complete an Associate of Science degree in business administration then transfer seamlessly to continue their studies toward a Bachelor of Science degree from Athens State in the following concentrations:
- Accounting
- Accounting w/minor
- Acquisition and Contract Management
- Human Resource Management
- Information Assurance Management
- Logistics and Supply Chain Management
- Management
- Management w/minor
- Management of Technology
- Management of Technology w/minor
Smith commented that she is appreciative of Athens State and that they've been connected to Columbia State for many years by providing opportunities for students, particularly in the southern Tennessee region through offering in-state tuition to students from the following nine counties: Bedford, Franklin, Giles, Lawrence, Lincoln, Marshall, Maury, Moore and Wayne.
"Today, we take one more step toward solidifying our partnership and increasing opportunities for others," Smith noted. "My appreciation goes out to Athens State and the Columbia State faculty and staff who sat and worked to build the program for our students."
Also in attendance were T.R. Williams, Lawrence County mayor; Dr. Bill Heath, director of Lawrence County Schools; Dr. Vicki Maddox and Jamie Glass, supervisors of instruction for the Lawrence County School System.
