Columbia State presents Guest Classical Music Recital 

(COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Oct. 9, 2017) - - - Columbia State Community College will be host a guest recital featuring Dr. Carolyn Treybig and Kristian Klefstad performing classical works from different musical historical periods, Oct. 12 at 5 p.m. in the Cherry Theater.

Dr. Treybig, lecturer of flute in the Belmont University School of Music, will perform the recital on the flute. Kristian Klefstad, associate professor of piano at Belmont, will perform on piano.

"We are excited to have these two talented Belmont faculty members perform at Columbia State," said Emily Gaskill, Columbia State associate professor of music. "Audience members will be able to experience a local professional caliber flute/piano recital. This performance will also be a special treat for our music majors, several of whom are piano or flute majors."

Treybig has taught applied flute, music history and music appreciation at Southeastern Louisiana University and then served as the Graduate Coordinator for the School of Music at the University of Southern Mississippi, where she also served as an adjunct flute instructor. Treybig has been the director of the Nashville Philharmonic Flute Ensemble and currently teaches flute and coaches chamber ensembles at the Tennessee Valley Music Festival each summer. She has performed with symphony orchestras in Alabama, Mississippi, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas.

Klefstad teaches piano, piano pedagogy, piano literature and directs the piano ensemble at Belmont. He is the Coordinator of the Piano Pedagogy program at Belmont and directs the Belmont Piano Camp, a summer piano program. Klefstad is an active recitalist, clinician, lecturer and adjudicator in the United States. He has performed solo and collaborative concerts throughout the country.

The recital is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the Columbia State Lyceum Committee and the Department of Music. The Cherry Theater is in the Waymon L. Hickman Building on the Columbia Campus located at 1665 Hampshire Pike.
